A hand carved skull cup is already up there on the cool factor-ometer but when you add a thumb dent in the eye, a spot just perfect for your thumb to settle while you take a slow sip and enjoy conversation with friends, your cup goes from cool to king of the heap.

Approximate dimensions are 3" x 3" and will vary slightly due to the handmade nature of wheel thrown pottery, but that's what makes it so cool.

$5 flat rate shipping makes this an easy choice!

There's something special about handmade spoons. It's such a humble item but can be so much more when it's unique. The handmade spoons I have collected over the years are now a part of my daily rituals. I use them for scooping coffee, tea and herbs on the regular.

The handmade spoons also make a wonderful gift for a hostess or friend with a package of freshly roasted Tinker Coffee (my favorite and roasted right here in Indianapolis)

Each spoon is completely hand formed using a dark stoneware clay from Minnesota and the bowl of the spoon is glazed using a food safe recipe we mix in our Indianapolis pottery studio. No two are exactly alike. Please allow us to choose the perfect spoon for you.

Measures approximately 4-5" long with a 1.5" spoon bowl.

  • Spice Jar with Natural Cork | Crimson Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery |
    Quick shop

Liven up your cooking experiences. Store your favorite spice blend or dried herbs in this handmade spice jar. They’ll always be close at hand and add a sense of style to your kitchen.

The unglazed portion of clay helps to manage the humidity levels of whatever you keep inside and the exposed clay of the bottle is the perfect place to write the name of the spice inside using a light colored chalk or pencil.

Each bottle is unique because it is made on my potter’s wheel and glazed by hand.

Sizes vary slightly but average approximately 2-2.5” high without the cork and 1.25-1.5” in diameter.

Sold individually with a natural cork.

More colors will be available soon!

  • SALE Maple Syrup Pitcher Blue and White | Handmade Pottery by Rebecca Graves Indianapolis Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery |
    Quick shop
    Sold out
    Sold out

My husband is Canadian and really loves maple syrup. I'm not sure if it is a longing for the homeland or just because it tastes so darn good. At any rate, drizzling warm pure maple syrup over our Fluffy Pancakes from scratch is the height of Sunday morning indulgence for us. (You can find the recipe here. It really is just as easy as the pancakes from a box and tastes far better!)

Warm your syrup for 30 seconds in the pitcher using your microwave. Yep! It's microwave safe.

An alternate use for your new favorite little pitcher is as a creamer. When you're serving a buffet or dessert and coffee you can chill this little handmade ceramic pitcher ahead of time in the refrigerator and it will keep your cream chilled far longer as it sits on the table.

The signature handle makes this so comfortable to hold. While the shape and function are classic and traditional, even, the modern pinched handle adds a contemporary design element that makes it fresh and new.

Measures approximately 3" high and 2.5" wide.

    Microwave and dishwasher safe.

Handmade on my pottery wheel using high fire white stoneware clay from Minnesota and food safe glazes mixed in our studio.

$5 flat rate shipping in the continental US.

  • Canvas Vase | Handmade Ceramic Pottery Planter by Gravesco Pottery Indianapolis Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery |
    Quick shop

My love of fabric came long before I delved into clay. I've always been a fan of textures. This vase is the first of its kind and one of the very first projects I made using my new Hi Roller Slab Roller.

The clay appears fluid, textured, and slightly billowy as if it is made of something other than rigid ceramic.

It's beautiful on its own but also works well with live plants like succulents, wheat grass, or small house plants. A bundle of fresh lavender or branches from a walk in the woods would also look quite lovely. The vase is food safe, as well, so perhaps it could become your new bread stick container at your next buffet.

While most of my work is made using the potter's wheel, I still love to hand build some things. There's something special about shaping and sculpting the clay using only your hands and a few very basic tools.

Measures approximately 3.5-4" high x 5" wide and approximately 1.5-2" deep.

$5 flat rate shipping on all orders in the continental US!

  • Stop Trying To Control Me Hand Carved Ceramic Wall Tile by Gravesco Pottery Indianapolis Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery |
    Quick shop
    On sale

This one is inspired by my step-brother and his wife. They both have a great sense of humor. At a holiday function, she asked (or was it told?) him to get something from the kitchen. His immediate response to the request was, "Stop trying to control me!" and then they both bust up laughing.

It's sort of become a mantra when I find myself in a situation where I feel like someone else is trying to control my actions, the outcome, or micro-managing me. With a people-pleaser attitude it's easy to fall into the trap of allowing someone else to control your narrative.

You can hang this on your wall as a reminder to say no when someone tries to control you or as a warning to anyone who would dare try.

The stop trying to control me wall tile is handmade using a high fire white stoneware on my pottery wheel then hand carved using the sgraffito method before being glazed and fired. It's all a lot more involved than that, but this is sort of the gist of it. Each one is completely free-hand carved, no stamps, no sketching, no planning. I just dig in and go.

The back of the tile is curved inward allowing it to be easily hung on a simple nail or screw. It looks like it is floating on the wall creating an interesting level of dimension.

Measures approximately 5.5" diameter but honestly, that is a guess because I am typing this at home in my pajamas and can't read my own hand written notes on the dimensions.

As always, all orders in the continental US are shipped at a flat rate of $5 because you deserve it! So go ahead and shop to your heart's content. It's only going to be $5.

  • SALE Vintage Planets Everyday Mug | Dark Stoneware Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery |
    Quick shop
    Sold out
    Sold out

The mug you reach for every morning, our Vintage Planets Everyday Mug is just the right size and comfy to hold.

When designing each piece of pottery, I pay attention to the details that make it truly function in a way that you can't imagine living without it. The Everyday Mug holds approximately 12 ounces of your favorite beverage. The dimple in the side of the mug, beneath the handle, gives your knuckles a little extra room when your coffee or tea is piping hot. If you prefer to snuggle your mug with your hand wrapped around it, the dimple is a cozy spot for a steady grip. The handles are my unique pinched design formed by my own fingers so they'll fit yours comfortably and ergonomically.

The vintage illustration of planetary positions is fired into the glaze so it is both durable and permanent.

Microwave and dishwasher safe, though, I do recommend hand washing since things bang around quite a bit in the dishwasher. If you choose to use the dishwasher anyway, your pottery will last much longer if you're careful to place it where it won't vibrate or bang against other dishes.

Each piece of pottery is carefully wrapped and packed to ensure safe delivery.

$5 flat rate shipping on your entire order in the continental United States!

  • Symbols of the Sacred Feminine Bowl Carving Workshop with Rebecca Graves Prowse and Deb Swingholm Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery |
    Quick shop

Sacred Feminine Workshop with Deb Swingholm Flowering Moon and Rebecca Prowse of Gravesco Pottery in Indianapolis

    Symbols of the Sacred Feminine

There was a time - not so long ago - when humans saw the Divine as a woman. A wise, protective, nourishing Goddess.

All around the world she was honored and today her symbols remain. They are consistent. Recognizable. Powerful and magical.

These symbols form a language - a sacred vocabulary that evokes plants, animals, creation, transformation and all the cycles of the Earth.

Goddess symbols appear in Renaisance paintings, gothic cathedrals and stone grottos. They show up in folk art like weaving, handmade carpets, basketmaking, pottery and other women's crafts.

In this workshop, you'll get to know some of these symbols and find out how they were used. Then you'll work with them to create a carved bowl. Later, you can use your bowl for smudging, to hold holy water or to keep your favorite stones or crystals.

    This ancient imagery will...

    - connect you more deeply with the natural world

    - add layers of meaning to your favorite fairy tales and myths

    - let you see the Goddess as your ally and guardian

    - activate your creativity in new ways

    ...........................................................

    Workshop date: Saturday August 18th, 1pm - 4:30 pm

    Workshop Leaders:

Deb Swingholm of Flowering Moon will lead the workshop on the sacred feminine.

Rebecca Prowse of Gravesco Pottery will lead the group through carving their personal symbols into a wheel thrown bowl that she's made in advance for just this purpose.

    Location:
    Gravesco Pottery
    Ruckus Micro-Manufacturing
    1417 Commerce Ave
    Indianapolis, IN 46201

Enter through the glass doors next to the big overhead door with an A. You'll be guided back to Rebecca's Studio where we'll all participate.

The class is limited to 8 participants to ensure a personal experience and time for carving. No previous ceramics experience is necessary. This workshop is open to adults of all skill levels.

Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Expect to get a bit dirty, but nothing you'll be using is likely to permanently stain your clothing.

Bowls will be carved at the workshop then glazed and fired. Finished bowls will be available for pick up 2 weeks after the workshop. All participants will be notified by email when the bowls are available. If you're unable to pick up your bowl in two weeks, that's no problem, we can arrange for delivery and work out the details while you're at the workshop.

Feel free to bring your own beverages or snacks for yourself or to share. Light snacks, iced water and wine will be available.
