Growing up with the last name Graves, our family sense of humor tended to be a bit on the morbid side. Now, as an adult, I full appreciate and respect the quirky sense of humor that was pretty much bred into me. As part of that kooky upbringing came a love of the Addams Family and all things skull or skeleton that were more on the campy side of things than creepy. I'm not a huge fan of creepy. I have enough trouble sleeping without adding creepy to my creative insomnia.
When I first started carving on pottery, a skull was at the top of the list for me. I was dying to have a skull mug or cup or bowl or vase with a fun skull or skeleton that inspires a respect for those who came before us and reminds us that we're all the same under this fleeting exterior. My skulls and skeletons tend to make me grin every time I carve them. Now you can also get my signature skull on a tshirt!
Choose from Black with a bold white skull or a more subtle look with the heathered grey and white skull. At first glance it may appear the skull is a little off center but don't worry! It'll look terrific on because it's exactly how I carve them with a bit of background peeking through to show off the hand carved effect. This particular skull was first carved in a linoleum block then printed before being photographed, digitized and turned into my signature skull tee. The full image is dead centered, I promise. (*dead centered...get it? Yeah. I'll keep my day job as a potter and not try to make a living as a comedian.)
