Strong connections between objects, ideas, concepts, people…this fuels my imagination. The interconnectedness of relying on each other for support and strength. The flexibility of movement and variety of functions that are the hallmarks of chains intrigue me.
They can be used to weigh down, capture or imprison or they can be a tool for such a variety of mechanical tasks. They can guide rain from your roof to the ground in a less destructive manner or pull a truck out of the mud (been there done that).
The number 6 is the symbol of luck. Which luck is yours in regards to chains? Is it weight and imprisonment or support and strength?
Am I assigning too much thought to a simple stoneware chain intended to lie on a coffee table looking interesting?
Perhaps.
But in a world of commercialism, individualism and a desire to find community and support, I prefer to think of it as an invitation to contemplate how you view the world.
