There has always been something special about cloth napkins. When I was a kid they were considered extra fancy. As an adult I've banished the idea of "save it for special occasions" and use cloth napkins every day. They're easy to wash and I'm not filling trash cans with barely used paper. I have cloth napkins that are over 20 years old that we still use and love.

We chose Meema brand cotton napkins because their company is in keeping with our values. They design kitchen and home textiles with upcycled denim and cotton to be as sustainable as possible. Like us, they believe that every product should be designed for the ideal combination of joy and function with ethics at the center of it all.

Their napkins and aprons are made with fibers discarded by jeans manufacturers and yarn mills that would be discarded as waste. They give them a second life and their own waste is used by coffee growers as a natural compose, returning to the earth and continuing the cycle. Their manufacturing process uses minimal resources and energy. For every kg of upcycled material, 20,000 liters of water are saved.

It's just another reason to love using cloth napkins.

Just as the name says, this is our favorite bowl. You know the one. The bowl you reach for when you want ice cream after a bad day and you’re feeling fancy enough to put it in a bowl. It’s the handmade bowl you want every time you post photos of the salad you made on the Gram. When people are over for drinks (in the back yard socially distanced), you pull them out and fill them with cherry tomatoes, olives, hummus and nuts. Our favorite bowl is the one you’ll grab for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, entertaining and whatever else you need a bowl for.

Slow down. Set aside time to indulge your senses. Even the mundane becomes extraordinary when you add handmade pottery.

The single serving bowl measures approximately 2.25” high and 5.5” diameter and holds enough cereal to exceed the recommended serving size considerably.

Our favorite handmade ceramic bowls are microwave and dishwasher safe. If you choose to pop them in the dishwasher, just make sure the lips are not touching other dishes. They’ll make it through just fine, but like any ceramic or glass, when the dishwasher starts flinging water everywhere it’s easy to chip a lip where they vibrate against each other.

As always we offer $5 flat rate shipping on your entire order within the continental United States.

Gratitude, cleansing, meditating, space clearing and blessings are just a few of the ways that ethically sourced palo santo can improve your spiritual practice and well being. It’s not incense to be lit because you want a room to smell good, it’s so much more. It is sacred, must be ethical and used with clear intent.

With a long history as a holy wood whose smoke is healing it is no surprise that during the stay at home lockdowns during the pandemic many people are turning to palo santo to relieve stress and create a stronger connection with ritual. It is my desire to offer a Palo Santo ritual kit that encourages you to celebrate the sacred nature of this sacred smoke and offers an option for using sacred herbs as something more than just air freshener.

For decades, palo santo has been my first choice when I bring something new into my home that I want to smudge, when I want to meditate on gratitude or when it is time to do a simple smudge to clear my home. I even use it as an intentional shift from the busy work of running a production studio to sitting at the wheel and making pottery. It creates a threshold between the ordinary and elevated.

Designing a vessel to enhance that ritual was a pleasure. The Palo Santo Burning Bowl will hold the palo santo safely aloft to allow for smudging without the danger of fire from a glowing ember falling onto something unexpected.

Now, if you’re as curious as I was about the ethics of palo santo...

There is so much information floating around about Palo Santo, some of which is accurate and much that is not at all based in truth. In an intentional effort to respect the holy aspect of palo santo and to continue our passion for sourcing materials with integrity the Palo Santo sticks we offer are ONLY sourced from a well-reputed individual source that submits to certification and auditing to confirm proper licensing for harvest, approved harvesting methods, respect for the holy wood, and partnerships with native communities to encourage growth and success for all involved. From our supplier, “For us, the value of environmentally conscious forestry practices & the humane treatment of our native community partners far outweigh the value of the dollar.” If you’d like to learn more you can find more information direct from our source here.

Mouth watering sweet orange and classic sweet patchouli are a bright yet soothing combination. Each bar of our handmade soap is fragranced enough to delight you when you use it but not so heavily scented that you'll be wearing it all day long. We like to think this just keeps us coming back for more.

Handmade soap is always a wonderful gift, stocking stuffer if you're planning ahead for the holidays, or treat for your coworkers who are probably as tired of harsh detergent as you are.

We love our handmade soaps for frequent hand washing without harsh chemicals but also use it in the tub for all over. I've even enjoyed it as a shampoo on my short hair.

If you haven't used handmade cold process soap before, you're in for a treat. If handmade soaps are old hat for you, get ready for a bar that is gently cleansing and filled with moisturizers.

For longest lasting results, keep your bar stored on a draining soap dish or wire rack so it completely dries out between uses. I like to cut each bar in half and keep one half in the linen cupboard to lightly scent my towels and keep it dry until I'm ready to use it.

Each hand cut bar is packed in a pure cotton muslin bag with a drawstring then wrapped with our label printed on French Paper Company paper. We love French Paper Company because they've been producing high quality paper for generations using hydro power close by in Niles, Michigan. Once upon a time I found this amazing rock by the shore of Lake Erie over in Pennsylvania that had a perfect divot in the top. It looked almost like a donut and I kept an air plant in the divot. In one of the many moves over the years it was misplaced but I've never forgotten about it. When designing the pod planter that rock came to mind and a new variation of the shape was hatched.

The pod planter is just a li'l thing. It measures approximately 2" wide and about an inch high. It's just the right size for the air plant that comes with it or for a small succulent to make a corner of your home just a little brighter.

Like everything we do at Gravesco, our air plants are intentionally and ethically sourced. All of our air plants are sustainable farmed in CITES-certified nurseries. Our supplier also gives $1 from every sale to Pencils of Promise which we think is pretty cool.

AIR PLANT CARE from our supplier:

CARING FOR YOUR BRAND NEW AIR PLANTS

Yay, they've arrived! After you've unpacked your plants and spent sufficient time marveling at their unique beauty (and possibly giving them names), give them a good soak in a water bath (submerged in the water) for about 20-30 minutes. Shake gently to remove any excess water, and set in a spot with bright light and good air circulation to dry off. Follow the directions below for ongoing care of your plants.

LIGHT

Air plants should be kept where they'll receive bright, indirect sunlight or under fluorescent home/office lighting. Periods of direct sunlight are just fine, but more than a few hours of hot sun will deplete the plants of their moisture. If your plant will be in a spot with some pretty direct light, try misting them every couple of days to keep them hydrated.

WATER

Air plants live on air, right? Uh, not right! While air plants don't grow in soil, they definitely NEED to be watered. While the plants can survive for long periods of drought, they will not grow or thrive and will eventually die off if water is too scarce. Follow the directions below for watering your plants on a regular basis and they will stay alive and well for quite some time. The good news is that since these plants are very forgiving, you shouldn't stress over their care schedule. There's certainly no need to get a babysitter when you go on vacation.

As a main method of watering your plants, we recommend giving them a thorough rinsing under running water or letting them soak in a bath of water for 20-30 minutes. You can use a bowl, the sink or even the bathtub if you've got a family. After their shower or bath, gently shake the plants to remove any excess water from the base and the leaves, and set out to dry in an area with enough air circulation to dry them out in about 4 hours. If your plants need an in-between watering, misting them with a spray bottle is a great method. A plant in bloom should be rinsed rather than submerged in water, and take care when rinsing the delicate flowers.

HOW OFTEN DO I WATER MY AIR PLANTS?

Your plants should be watered once per week, and 2-3 times is recommended for optimal care. A longer, 2-hour soak is recommended every 2-3 weeks. If you are in a drier, hotter climate, more frequent watering or misting will be needed. You'll begin to notice that after watering, your plant's leaves will feel stiffer and full of water and they'll be softer and lighter in color when they're in need of water. Wrinkled or rolled leaves can be a sign of dehydration.

TEMPERATURE

Air plants will do best in generally warm conditions (a good range is 50-90 degrees Fahrenheit). In frost-free or nearly frost-free climates they can live outside for the entire year. Like most house plants, they can be taken outside on a porch or balcony for the warm season, just don't expose them to temperature or sun extremes.

GROOMING & AESTHETIC MAINTENANCE

Everyone needs a little grooming once in a while! It is normal for some of the lower leaves of your tillandsias to dry out as the plant grows or acclimates to a new environment, and those leaves can be gently pulled right off of the plant. If the leaf tips have dried out, you can snip the dried tip off (try trimming at an angle to leave a natural-looking pointy tip), and the same can be done for the plant's roots. Don't worry about harming your plants during grooming--they'll regrow.

The Gavrinis inspired hand carved ritual bowl is going to add a special meaning to your personal rituals. The bowl measures approximately 4” diameter and is handmade using a dark stoneware clay from Kentucky Mudworks, a woman owned and operated clay manufaturer that we just happen to love.

Use your new ritual bowl with palo santo, sage, sweetgrass, resin, incense or any of your favorite clearing ingredients. Each bowl comes with a small amount of pure silica sand for the bottom so the bowl does not get too hot to hold and to extinguish your burning whatever.

Every bowl is unique. While you may not receive the exact bowl in the photo, you will receive one from this series. We will intuitively choose the bowl for you.

One of my favorite sage bundles is from Flowering Moon. If you purchase the set of 3 sage bundles from her she will include the directions for her smudging ritual which is my absolute favorite. It is simple to follow and deeply powerful when performed correctly. It’s more than just burning sage and waving it about. She’ll walk you through every step of the process and you will be able to claim your space while clearing the energy with success every time. Click here to purchase sage bundles from Flowering Moon. If you prefer white sage, you can purchase our ethically sourced White Sage from Juniper Ridge here.

Now for the exciting stuff! This is how the bowl came into being...

When my good friend, Deb Swingholm of Flowering Moon came home from her last trip to France she was alight with stories about visiting Gavrinis.

If you google Gavrinis you’ll find a load of misinformation about it being a tomb with “abstract carvings” dating back to approximately 3500 bc. It turns out, it isn’t a tomb at all but a ritual space and those abstract carvings are actually murals of waves, suns, chevrons, trees, lozenges, coils, spirals and concentric arcs. Those arcs, not abstract at all, are described as “vulvas” and combined with the waves, the carvings “seem to say that the generative force of the Goddess is inexhaustible, rising and flowing like waves,” according to UCLA archaeology professor Marija Gimbutas. Googling “Gavrinis goddess” will get you much more interesting and accurate information.

Reclaiming power as women, the permission to set our own physical boundaries and appreciating the amazing things women do within our civilization has been a motivating force for me this past decade. Not to say I’ve ever been much of a shrinking flower, but knowing that women were once revered as the leaders of their culture and they kept the spiritual wellbeing of their tribes as sacred is heartening. Being surrounded by strong, intelligent women who bring change to their lives and the lives of those around them is inspiring. Finding male friends who support the strengths and power of the women in their lives has given me hope for a future where women do not have to struggle to be valid.

In developing new designs for pottery I have always worked to design objects that function well as intended and to decorate them in a way that means something to me.

Sometimes those carvings say, “f%#* salad, I want cake,” because...hello...cake! Sometimes they are deeply personal carvings inspired by the travels of the women in my circle, meant to empower more women to embrace their inner strength and become the badass they were always meant to be.

Our Large Serving Bowl - Serves side salad for 6-8 people or 2 verrrrrry hungry people.

When we have dinner at Jason Michael Thomas's farm to table events in downtown Indianapolis we always go out into the yard to pick greens for the obligatory farm to table Big Ass Yard Salad and this bowl holds enough for the entire crew. It's also terrific for fruit, pasta, and a slew of other dishes to be served family style or just fill it with a few pounds of fruit as a lovely centerpiece.

Made using regional tan clay by hand on the potter's wheel by resident potter, Ryan Vanhoy, here in our studio in Indianapolis, Indiana. Each bowl varies slightly due to the handmade nature. Those variations are to be celebrated as part of the slow making movement as they show evidence of the makers involved in the process.

Skulls are always in season in our household. Settle in for a quiet moment, candles lit, bathroom door locked, favorite music playing softly, hot tea in your handmade skull mug, a good book and as you finish filling the tub with steaming water drop in the skull bath bomb. Watch it fizzle and spread the mysterious color, release the sweet fragrance of eucalyptus and spearmint then slide into that warm water. Take a few deep breaths and relax. Let your shoulders drop. Roll your head side to side and relieve that tension.

Sip you tea, wine or whatever and enjoy the luxurious pampering.

I personally like to finish this relaxing soak with an all over massage with a bar of our Spearmint & Rosemary handmade soap as the water starts to cool.

In my tests the bath bomb creates a beautiful purple water that drains cleanly. There was no purple left behind. After a quick wipe down, like I do after every bath, the tub is spotless.  For reference, the tubs in our loft are steel coated with porcelain enamel. There is a small patch spot that I was worried may stain but it has not. This bath bomb is a true luxury.

5oz = 2.25" Diameter  ships shrink wrapped to keep it dry so it doesn't fizz out from humidity. Packaged in a simple organic cotton muslin bag perfect for gift giving.  I love to repurpose the muslin bags by filling them with dried herbs to use later as a bath tea.

Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Citric Acid, Epsom Salt, Coconut Oil, Phthalate-Free Fragrance, Aqua, Polysorbate 80, FD&C Colorant.

We start with a stack of prepared clay, all the same size, with the intent of making no two mugs exactly the same.

Each mug holds approximately 16 ounces of your favorite hot or cold beverage. They are microwave and dishwasher safe. The clay is a rich shade of tan and the glaze is a sexy black we love as a classic. It's like a pair of black slacks that go with everything (Or let's be honest, during quarantine a pair of black leggings or sweats). There is something so special about loading a brush with glaze, smacking it onto the pot in just the right spot and dragging it along the surface to leave a one of a kind mark. The energy and abandon of the split second is made permanent in the kiln, enduring as long as the pottery lasts. There is no second chance. This can’t be fixed if the stroke is messed up. It takes confidence, practice and a willingness to celebrate whatever happens.
