  • Batik Mug for Soup or Latte | City Black Glaze Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery | Mug
    Quick shop

The City Black Batik Mug will elevate even the simplest of comfort foods - no one will realize that your ramen was made with boiling water, not gourmet! You love gourmet ramen, too? Well, then you’re in luck.

Jason Michael Thomas has said on more than one occasion that this is his favorite mug for serving tea, lattes and soups of all kinds.

The Batik Soup Mug is microwave and dishwasher safe and although I personally prefer to hand washing my favorite pottery, you're welcome to clean your new  mug however you'd like! If you do choose to put it in the dishwasher, go with the top shelf and make sure it isn't going to rattle against another item that could potentially cause a chip.

The Batik Mug is comfortable in the hand, even when full to the brim. The wide handle is textured with an antique stamp, adding grip, while the width makes it easy to hold.

Each mug is wheel thrown then the stamped handle is added. Because of the handmade nature of the mug, each one is a little different. That's the beauty of handmade.

To learn the story behind the antique hand carved wooden stamp used on the handle, read my blog post about it.

  • Batik Mug for Soup or Latte | Classic White Glaze Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery | Mug
    Quick shop

The Classic White Batik Mug is perfect for your favorite soup or latte. I've even enjoyed using it for my morning bowl of age inappropriate cereal. You'd think at age 46 I'd be over Lucky Charms, but alas, it's just not true. I love 'em.

The Batik Soup Mug is microwave and dishwasher safe, though I personally prefer to hand wash my favorite pottery rather than allow it to rattle around in the dishwasher. That's just my personal preference, though, and you're welcome to clean your new pottery however you prefer! If you do choose to put it in the dishwasher, go with the top shelf and make sure it isn't going to rattle against another item that could potentially cause a chip.

The wide handle is stamped with an antique batik stamp for texture which makes it easier to grip. The width of the handle makes it easy to hold even when completely full to the rim.

Each mug is handmade, first thrown on the wheel before the addition of the stamped handle. The beauty of handmade is each has its perfect imperfections!

  • Batik Mug for Soup or Latte | Crimson Red Glaze Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery | Mug
    Quick shop

Snuggled on the sofa in the evening with your new handmade Batik Mug filled with your favorite mac and cheese as you decide whether to catch up on some Netflix or just enjoy some music and read a bit while you gnosh - sounds like a great way to end a hectic day, right?

The Batik Mug was designed to be just the right size and shape for everything from your morning latte to your ramen lunch and evening dinner. We use them more than anything in our cupboard. If you choose to use it for soup and do the quick dash microwave heat up, it’s pretty handy that the batik stamped handle of our stoneware soup mug doesn’t get hot. If you keep yours in the freezer, it’s pretty darn handy for icecream, but I have to tell you, the handle definitely gets cold. It’s kind of nice in August, though.

Farm to Table food enthusiast, chef and urban farmer, Jason Michael Thomas has declared on more than one occasion that this is his favorite piece of pottery.

While I prefer to handwash my favourite pottery rather than let it rattle around in the dishwasher, the Batik Soup Mug is microwave and dishwasher safe. If you do choose to put it in the dishwasher, go with the top shelf and make sure it isn't going to rattle against another item that could potentially cause a chip.

Each mug is wheel thrown then the stamped handle is added. Each one is a little different - that’s the beauty of handmade.

This mug is generously sized to hold a full 12 ounce can of soup with room to spare. This makes it just the right size for soup, mac and cheese, cereal, ice cream, lattes, pasta and anything else you like to eat on the go or snuggled on the sofa.

  • Batik Mug for Soup or Latte | Turquoise Glaze Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery | Mug
    Quick shop
Snuggle up with your favorite latte or a tasty mug full of soup to ward off a chill or just relax, taking a break from your busy life. You’ll find yourself reaching for this mug every day for everything you’d normally use a mug or a bowl for like:
    -your favorite latte
    -hot cocoa
    -oatmeal
    -cereal
    -soup
    -icecream

The wide handle is stamped with an antique batik stamp for texture which makes it easy and comfortable to grip. The width of the handle makes it easy to hold even when completely full to the rim and the bottom is curved just right to warm your hands if you like to snuggle your mug like we do.

    How the mugs are made:

In the true sense of slow living, each mug is thrown on my potter’s wheel and the stamped handle is added the next day when the clay is just right. Once it dries (slowly so it doesn’t crack) it is bisque fired in one of my electric kilns to remove all the moisture and prepare the mug for glaze. The bisque firing process takes approximately thirty hours from the time we load the kiln until it is cool enough to unload again. The mug is then glazed and back into the kiln it goes for another firing, this time to 2200 degrees f. Twenty-four hours later we open the kiln and I have to tell you, it’s like Christmas every time. It never gets old.

Because of the handmade nature of the mug, each one is a little different. You probably won’t receive the exact mug in the photos, but we promise you’ll receive a similar mug that is equally fabulous. Every single one is unique and we think that is the beauty of handmade.

***The Batik Soup Mug is microwave and dishwasher safe, though I personally prefer to hand wash my favorite pottery rather than allow it to rattle around in the dishwasher. That's just my personal preference, though, and you're welcome to clean your new latte mug however you'd like! If you do choose to put it in the dishwasher, go with the top shelf and make sure it isn't going to rattle against another item that could potentially cause a chip.

The mug holds approximately 11-12 ounces to the tippy top, though because of the unique nature of handmade, that may vary a bit in either direction.

  • Bottled Poetry Charcuterie + Cheese Board | Hand Carved Sgraffito by Gravesco Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery |
    Quick shop
    On sale

Hang the Wine is Bottled Poetry Charcuterie + Cheese Board on the wall or use it to serve tasty appetizers to your friends and family. The one of a kind freehand carved quote by Robert Louis Stevenson will be revealed as you munch away.

    Measures approximately 4.5" x 11.5".

I do recommend hand washing your Charcuterie + Cheese board since things bang around quite a bit in the dishwasher. If you choose to use the dishwasher anyway, your pottery will last much longer if you're careful to place it where it won't vibrate or bang against other dishes. Always remove the suede hanging thong before cleaning.

NOTE: you may not receive the exact board featured in the photos but it will be similar and darn cool.

  • Canvas Vase | Handmade Ceramic Pottery Planter by Gravesco Pottery Indianapolis Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery |
    Quick shop
    On sale

My love of fabric came long before I delved into clay. I've always been a fan of textures. This vase is the first of its kind and one of the very first projects I made using my new Hi Roller Slab Roller.

The clay appears fluid, textured, and slightly billowy as if it is made of something other than rigid ceramic.

It's beautiful on its own but also works well with live plants like succulents, wheat grass, or small house plants. A bundle of fresh lavender or branches from a walk in the woods would also look quite lovely. The vase is food safe, as well, so perhaps it could become your new bread stick container at your next buffet.

While most of my work is made using the potter's wheel, I still love to hand build some things. There's something special about shaping and sculpting the clay using only your hands and a few very basic tools.

Measures approximately 3.5-4" high x 5" wide and approximately 1.5-2" deep.

  • Carriage House Everyday Mug | Canvas Glaze | Simple White Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery |
    Quick shop
    On sale

The mug you reach for every morning, our Carriage House Everyday Mug is just the right size and comfy to hold.

When designing each piece of pottery, I pay attention to the details that make it truly function in a way that you can't imagine living without it. The Carriage House Everyday Mug holds approximately 12 ounces of your favorite beverage. The dimple in the side of the mug, beneath the handle, gives your knuckles a little extra room when your coffee or tea is piping hot. If you prefer to snuggle your mug with your hand wrapped around it, the dimple is a cozy spot for a steady grip. The handles are my unique pinched design formed by my own fingers so they'll fit yours comfortably and ergonomically.

Microwave and dishwasher safe, though, I do recommend hand washing since things bang around quite a bit in the dishwasher. If you choose to use the dishwasher anyway, your pottery will last much longer if you're careful to place it where it won't vibrate or bang against other dishes.

  • Cheers Martini Cat Serving Bowl | Large fruit bowl | Gravesco Pottery Indianapolis Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery |
    Quick shop
    On sale

You don't have to be a full on cat lady to enjoy an oversized fruit bowl with a carved image of a sassy, slightly intoxicated cat drinking a martini, right? I'm not going to judge you either way.

This "Cheers" cat bowl is freehand sgraffito carved and one of a kind. It is dishwasher safe but I still recommend hand washing because things get banged around quite a bit in the dishwasher.

Measures approximately 10" diameter and 3" high. It will hold a full 5 lb bag of apples, a tossed salad for 4-6 people, more cereal than you should probably eat in a week, enough candy for your neighborhood trick or treat, or it can just sit empty on the table as an object d' art. My cats have also been known to curl up in similar bowls because they can. They don't need any other reason, they're cats.

  • Custom House Numbers | Sgraffito hand carved ceramic by Gravesco Pottery Indianapolis Gravesco cool handmade ceramics | Rebecca Graves Pottery |
    Quick shop

    Every number is completely unique.

I begin with a unique slab of stoneware clay, coat it with a black slip (that’s just really wet clay with colorants added) then freehand carve the numbers revealing the white clay beneath. Once each tile is dried completely it is bisque fired, clear glazed, then fired a second time.

A large hole can be cut into the top to hang it as I have, or a smaller hole if you’d prefer to hang it on a small nail or screw.

Each number is random in size with an average width of approximately 4”. Length varies from 6” to 12”.

The high fire stoneware is durable enough to hang outdoors year round.

Please allow 6-12 weeks for your custom address numbers.

This listing is for a single number. Please choose as many numbers as you require. Also, please add a note at checkout to let me know which numbers to carve for you.
